differences of the three
OPHTHALMOLOGIST :--
Ophthalmologists r medical doctors who have completed medical school & embark on a training schedule that generally lasts four years after medical school in most countries. Many ophthalmologists also undergo additional specialized training in one of the many subspecialities. Ophthalmology was the first branch of medicine to offer board certification, now a standard practice among all specialties.
In the United States, four years of training after medical school r required, with the first year being an internship in surgery, internal medicine, pediatrics, or a general transition year. The scope of a physician is licensure is such that he or she need not be board certified in ophthalmology to practice as an ophthalmologist
OPTOMETRIST :--
Optometrists, or optometric physicians as they r sometimes called in the US, r trained to diagnose, manage, & treat a multitude of visual & ocular health-related concerns, including, but not limited to, fitting & prescribing glasses & contact lenses, diagnosing & treating (excluding surgery) muscular abnormalities, treating minor ocular injuries, diagnosing & treating diseases such as glaucoma & diagnosing others such as diabetic retinopathy
OPTICIAN :--
An optician is an eye care professional who provides lenses for the correction of vision defects. The lenses may be contact lenses, or held in a frame in front of the eye, rarely as a monocle or most frequently as a pair of glasses, also known as spectacles or eyeglasses. The main optical properties of the lenses r specified from a refraction prescription supplied by a person qualified to measure visual defects & write an appropriate corrective prescription. The licensing & nomenclature of such persons varies from country to country.
opthalmologist - is the doctor who deals with eye disease and problems
optometrist - makes the eye glasses with power that would be suitable for the patient, wether he has astigmatism or whatever
optician - performs eye testing
Being from a family of glasses wearers:
Ophthalmologist has a medical degree & can do surgeries, prescribe medication & eye exams for glasses. Oh yes, they also cost about 3 times as much. But, of course it is ur eyes, so we have to spend the money.
Optometrist & Optician can do examinations & prescribe & fit glasses. BUT, if they see a serious eye disease going on, they must refer the patient to an Ophthalmologist.
Then there r specialists within the field of Ophthalmology.
I hope that helps you/
