l need to get some credits done for my certification and I am not exactly rolling in money right now.I've done the CE credits in the 20/20 magazine, which usually costs about $25 for one lousy credit.I am just wondering if anyone may have a source to find either free credits or cheaper credits, preferably online.l just find it to be a rip-off to pay $25 to read a 2 page article and then take a 15 question multiple-choice quiz on it.l do not necessarily expect to pay nothing for the credits, but l think those are a rip-off.And unfortunately, my employer is not pro-active about continuing education for his employees. My previous employer (an Ophthalmologist) paid for me to get my certification and my current employer does not encourage any type of continung ed. and certainly will not help pay for it.In fact, l think he discourages it because that means his employees will want more money.LOL

Thanks!!!
Acred -My employer IS a jerk...but the people and patients l work with are FAB-U-LOUS, which is why l still work there. They are incredibly accomodating with my part-time schedule (have a little one at home and a hubby in the military) and l have logged almost 10 years with them.l actually quit my current job back in 2003 to go work for an Ophthalmologist is practice (they are the ones who paid for me to take my ABO and supplied the study materials) and then got married and had a baby, took a year off, and then went back to my current employer on a part-time basis.l am currently the only certified optician in my office and l am very proud of it, but when it comes to continuing ed, l am on my own, which why l am asking the question because l do not have the money to spend on all kinds of credits.l am going to keep it current, especially since if l let it go, my current job will not pay for me to re-test.

My current employer is a cheap jerk which is why I am asking!LOL

Question for ABO Certified Opticians out there???

Yes there are free ones through different companies. Try Marchon, Transitions, Essilor just to name a few.

Just a comment: If your current employer does not wish you to have more knowledge then he is missing the boat. His patients will benefit greatly for your up to date know-how. He must be a jerk!

I would look for a different employer who thinks about his clients more than his pocketbook.

Question for ABO Certified Opticians out there???

I only do free ones. I have found some in 20:20 but I thought that there were more than that available. RIght now there are several on 2020mag.com that are ''granted'' or paid for by the sponsor. You should be able to get free ones this way, I do it all the time!
