On July 2007 l got a new pair of glasses to improve my left eye vision. l had some trouble adjusting to the magnification prescribed by my doctor, but l kept using it, as l thought this would improve with time. On December 2007, l noticed that if l put the right lens of my glasses over my left eye, l could see perfectly clear! l thought this was an error made by the optician, so l went back. To my surprise, he stated that the glasses were done exactly as ordered by the ophthalmologist. So l went back to the eye doc, who checked my eyes again, and changed the prescription saying that l needed less magnification than what was previously prescribed.(the doctor did state that the glasses were made to the specifications made on that previous prescription). Now the problem is that l spend alot of money on my glasses, and now the optician is asking me full price for the new lenses with the new prescription. My question is, what is the best way to go about rectifying this situation

Paid for eyeglasses only to find out that they were the wrong prescription. Who should pay for my new glasse

Do not listen to many of these people. 5 months is within a reasonable amount of time to expect professionals to correct THEIR mistakes. It sounds like the physician is at fault, & u should go to them first. It will be very difficult to prove that ur vision has not changed over the course of 5 months, but the fact that u see perfectly well through the wrong lens, implies error on the part of the optician or physician. What is the probability of getting the correct Rx lens for the wrong eye? There is always small claims court.

If u had taken the glasses back within a reasonable amount of time then u would probably not have been charged for the remake. It would have fallen under a professional courtesy remake. However, since u waited 5 months to seek help, it is ultimately ur mistake.

An Rx can change quickly-in as few as 3 months. And it is going to be difficult to convince ur doctor that the mistake was his. If u go back & explain the situation-especially if this is ur first pair of glasses-then u might have a better chance of getting them remade at no cost to u since u did not really know what to expect. If he is not willing to pay the optician for the remake, ask if he has a lab he deals with & would he be willing to remake the left lens to compensate for the mistake.

Good luck

Ask the optician if he would give you a reduced cost on the remake.

First of all, There is a consideration of the patient to do something about problems they are having in a resonable amount of time- like 2 months, max. Professional courtesies are done on a daily basis for those who ''take care of business'' and the common standard is 2 months. If you wait 4, 6 or 8 months ore more, most Eye doctors and Opticians will charge you again for their services.

You doctor should definately pay if he really did miswrite the prescription but there could had been a chance of your vision changing but then again I doubt it. But it seems like you play a part in it as well, you should have immediately took it back the moment you have trouble adjusting to the magnification.
Goodluck :)

Your eye doc should pay the cost if he admitted that the prescription he wrote was wrong. I do understand that he try to mask it by giving u new changed prescription for this year. So ask him/her to pay for old glasses to be redone. And say u will pay for new glasses make for new prescription. He might argue that ur eyes changed & u need only new prescription glasses. So ask if he is willing to split the cost. If answer is not. You have to ask him/her ,where u can complain. He must give u that information. You do not have insurance I supposed to do the fighting for you? If u need cheap glasses ASAP there is an on line store & I know from other chat that many people were quite satisfied with their services.

Hi Kpabo

It is a frustrating one. The optician has done nothing wrong - he simply filled the script as it came to him. The fault is with the doctor who firstly made the mistake & secondly would not admit it.

The best way to resolve the situation is to dig out the receipts of the first set of glasses (the optician may be able to provide u with a copy if you've lost yours). You will still have to pay for a new set of glasses & keep that receipt also.

Then seek legal advice. Take it to a small claims tribunal & provide evidence of the initial script & receipts. If u can get to another eye doctor to have a second script done, so much the better as it will prove this first doctor wrong.

Pay for the new glasses & recoup ur money from this doctor afterwards. The optician may be able to offer testimony for u if u keep on the good side. :D

I wish u the best of luck.

Cheers ~ Peps

It is defenitly not the opician is fault. Why should he be penalized.

If the eye doctor wo not admit his error you have a tough fight.
try making a complaint to your local better business beureu.
Some business will offer to resolve complaints so as not to create a bad public record

This does happen, it is not unusual. The eye doctor you saw should be the one to pay for the new lens(es) if it was a ''mistake'' on his part. If you're script actually changed..which does happen, and can happen frequently, then you are responsible for the charge. Discuss it with your eye doctor. and reputable one will admit to a mistake and take care of it.

tell him that this is his fault and you already paid.tell him he has no right to ask for another payment or you will sue his ass for malpractise

Tell your eye doctor he needs to make up the differance on the cost. Everyone makes mistakes, but you should not have to cover the cost of his mistake.
