l work for an ophthalmologist that was going to force patients to pay for a procedure they were not educated on nor told the actual pricing because the doctor needed to be certified on a certain machine that month. In a nutshell l basically, did not charge patients because l did not know the pricing and it was unfair to charge patients with a bait and switch tactic. Now my employer has given me three choices... 1 2 days suspension without pay and make payments to the company for money they did not receive. 2. be terminiation for insabortation and they go after me for the money. or 3. l quit. l cant seem to get an answer from lawyers or the labor board... Maybe those of you out there can help me with this question.

Can an employer fire and threaten to ''go after'' for money they believe an employee cost them

He wo not sue you for the money. The reason? What he was doing was illegal and he knows it. You do not owe the money. Do not pay him. If he fires you, immediately file for unemployment which will cause his rates to rise. You can also report him to the licensing bureau for your state. In Florida it is called the Board Of Professional Regulation. He has a lot more to lose that you do.

SOUNDS LIKE YOU messed up royally.

Since you purposely did not charge the patients, you are liable.

Best to pay up fast and hope no criminal charges are brought.
