l wanna become an eye doctor(aka an ophthalmologist). l of course wanna become a doctor in order to help people and make a difference in society. However l do wonder about the life styles of doctors. Would they be able to buy clothes often, dine often and just have fun while spending money? l also wanna know how many times they would be able to have a full vacation(like 1-2 months) in a year. l just wanna give a really good life to my future family.

The life of a docto

I am a 4th year medical student right now, so I think I can maybe give u some idea. Medical school is really competitive to get into & once u r in, it is really tough & time-consuming.

The life of an opthalmologist is pretty comfortable & lucritive, but b/c of this fact ophthalmology is also one of the most difficult residency programs to get into, which means that u will have to work extra-hard while in med school to have near-perfect grades & lots of extra-cirricular activities. In terms of a specific salary or vacation time, that depends on the hospital or clinic u work for. If u own ur own practice (which is increasingly difficult to do in this day & age) u will have more of a say in these matters, but this will also mean more work for you.

Overall the lifestyle of a physician varies depending on the subspecialty & the area of the country u want to practice medicine in. There r not any starving, out-of-work physicians around, but at the same time there r certainly a lot of other professions & business ventures that could net u way more money than a lot of medical specialties (such as pediatrics or general practice).

Bottom line, DON'T go into medicine b/c u want a cushy lifestyle or b/c u want to make a lot of money. You will definitely have to put in some long hours (way more than 40 hours per week) in medical school, in residency & as a physician. It is a very long process that requires a lot of commitment & sacrifice.

You make out of it what u want. If u r satisfied with a good income & want ur own time, a GP working for an HMO basically works 9 to 5 & gets plenty of vacation time. A neurosurgeon, on the other hand, will generally work 6 am to 9 pm, & get little time off. Plus, the ''vacation'' time he does take is generally scheduled around conferences. But, his income would be substantial. ER physicians, & others in some surgical specialties might be on call at odd hours, & have to operate nights, weekends, holidays, but again, they r paid very well for their time & expertise.

u r worrying about the wrong part.
the part u should be worried about is, goin to school to be a Dr.
it takes every bet of ur attention & devotion, meaning you;l have no life but school & study, u become a nerd. now r u willing to give up 6-8 years of ur life?
If so, then the fun beginds.
once become a Dr., u make so much money, that u can VC anytime. who cares. u can work for any hostpital or clinic anytime.
you'l be like a hero.
every where wants to hire you.
you get paid for just showing ur face & say hey'' i am Dr. ass, give a paycheck''.
you will get hundreds of thounsands dollars from phamacuedicals company fro prescribing unecessary prescriptions drugs.
you pretty much get to scam patients so they can by certain drugs cuz u get lots of money, noted as ''gifts'' from those pharcuetical companies.

i hope u dont become one of those Dr.'s.
The gorvernment should stop companies from giving Dr is suck huge amount of money & have them report it.
it is not fare to patients.
The average person gets scam every possible.
screw all Dr'.s

They usually work too much to worry about those things.

My ex boyfriend is an optometrist. He had to go to optometry school for 4 years after college.

Yes, he has money to through around. He can dine our & buy clothes & wiis & whatever he wants. But he does not have a lot of time for vacations because he works long hours & has a lot of patients.

From my understanding, an opthalmologist makes more money than an optometrist.

However, u really should not pick ur career on the money u will make. While u r at school for this u will likely be very broke.
