l had to get plugs put in my eyes due to dry eyes probably about a month ago.Well now my left eye is bugging me and when l looked the plug is gone!l think l rubbed it out.Well the orginal doc l went to is a couple hours away and not contracted with my insurance, so l was hoping to go to someone more local and contracted. The question is do l have to go to an Opthamologist or can l go to an Optometrist?

Thanks
Thanks.Yes l just started Restasis at the same time the plugs were put in.The kind of plugs theyused on me you can see when you pull the lower lid back, it is just a tiny white bump where your duct normally is.It is there on the right now, but not on the left-- l checked after my left eye has been bothering me quite badly for several days now.

Ophthalmologist or Optometrist

both of the other posters are WRONG. sorry, guys. i do plugs all the time.and Rx restasis, etc etc. you dont need a SURGEON (ophthalmologist) to treat dry eye.

need SURGERY? go see an ophthalmologist

anything ELSE eye related? go see the optometrist

Ophthalmologist or Optometrist

I had the punctal plugs. They r very tiny & I could not see them when they were in place. You will need to see an ophthalmologist. You could call an optometrist, if he is closer, to ask if he can do the procedure, but there is very little an optometrist can do except give eye tests & prescribe glasses.
Mine did not work, & even though u pay quite a bit to have them put in, they do not give a ''rebate'' :-) if they do not work. I hope yours help.
Do u use Restasis also?

Ophthalmologist or Optometrist

Go to an opthalmologist...they are the medical doctors that actually preform eye surgeries. An optometrist basically just deals with vision problems that can be corrected with prescription glasses.

Hope this helps and hope you get better soon!
